I am new here. I want to find an application which will show today's events and tasks in a single view. If I look at a week view, I want to see the tasks due on each day, in the same view as the events on that day. If I look at a month view, it should lay out the tasks on the days of the calendar, based on the task due dates.

Except for Google Calendar, I haven't found anything which supports this type of view. And I'm not happy with Google Calendar's task features, so I'm looking to products like Rainlendar instead.

Is this "merged" view functionality possible with Rainlendar?

In a word, yes, you can see in a day, week or month view the events and tasks in the same window.
If the task have a start and due date, in the month view you will see a large block covering all the days. If it doesn't have a start date and only a due date, you will see the task in the due date.

Remember to enable Options->Advanced->"Show tasks in calendar" too.

I'd like to have an overview over all upcoming tasks by just looking at the calendar. I don't want to hover over the days in the future to know what kind of tasks there is.

The calendar view show only the numbers.
To make something like what you want, you can add a Task List and sort the element by date as primary order.
