Google API Changes 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Other apps I use to access Google Calendar data have had to change the way they authenticate to Google because supposedly Google is blocking the email+password authentication method starting on November 17th. Since I haven't seen a beta release or discussion of one, I'm wondering if you're going to wait for it to stop working before beginning work on the fix? That would be a real pain to be without Rainlendar for a while...

Doesn't Rainlendar already work by authorizing the app usage of your google account?

It doesn't ask for a password here. You type your e-mail, and a login form for Google opens, where you authorizethe app.

As far as I know, it's not saving credentials (username or password) anywhere.

I have Rainlendar Pro 2.12.2 and mine has an email and password stored for each calendar which I have to reset every time I change the password. So do I need to delete all the calendars and re-add them to get the new authentication method? That would be a pain since I'd have to record all the settings for each calendar to put them back...

I have this in my rainlendar2.ini file, located in C:\Users\MyName\.rainlendar2 folder:

Code:

[Network\ Shared\ Calendar]
[Google\ Calendar\ Auth]
[Google\ Calendar\ Auth/email@email.com]
AuthCode=RandomNumbersAndLetters
RefreshToken=RandomNumbersAndLetters

Maybe changing yours or emptying it will make rainlendar ask for authorization again.

Anyway, Rainlendar always backups data if anything goes wrong.

Mine reads:

Calendar=bret.miller@gci.org
TaskList=bret.miller's list
Email=bret.miller@gci.org
Password=os:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx...

So I guess I'll back up the rainlender2.ini and play around a bit and see if changing things helps. And if nothing else, at least there's the delete and re-add option.

The support for the new Google API was added to Rainlendar over a year ago. You need to switch to the new "Google Calendar (v3)" type calendar. The old Google Calendar has been marked as deprecated and will be removed from the next version.
