TOPIC: Docker Container for Linux Hosts
#22944
Docker Container for Linux Hosts 2 Years, 2 Months ago
I figured that I would let people know here that I have created a Docker container for Rainlendar for Linux hosts that has been working out well for me.

It was hard for me finding some of the older libraries that Rainlendar required on Gentoo, and would have caused significant changes to some of my existing applications. So I built the container so that I could use the packaged Ubuntu version without many of these problems.

Some information about the container:

  • Please pay special attention to the command specified in the comment at the top of the Dockerfile or within the description of the forum post for how to run this container

  • This container is based on Ubuntu

  • It mounts your ~/.rainlendar2 directory inside the container so you can use your already existing Rainlendar settings from the host if you have any. This also means that all of your settings are preserved across container upgrades.

  • This particular container is based off of the latest Rainlendar BETA posted in the forums. I'll try to keep it up to date from time to time, let me know if you want it upgraded for something specific

  • This container needs access to your host's sockets in order to run within X correctly, so the --net=host line is, unfortunately, very necessary (it would be more secure to run without that option, let me know if someone finds something else that works)

My Git Repo with the Dockerfile: https://github.com/aauren/dockerfiles/blob/master/rainlendar/Dockerfile

Docker Repo with the pre-built Container: https://hub.docker.com/r/aauren/rainlendar-ubuntu/

This has been working well for me over the last week. Let me know if you run into any problems!

For those that don't want to read through the instructions, the following commands should work assuming that you have Docker installed and working (http://docs.docker.com/linux/started/). Run the following CLI commands:

  • docker pull aauren/rainlendar-ubuntu

  • mkdir -p ${HOME}/.rainlendar2

  • RHOME="/home/rainlendar" docker run --net=host --cpuset-cpus 0 --memory 128mb --device /dev/snd -v "${HOME}/.Xauthority:${RHOME}/.Xauthority:ro" -v "${HOME}/.rainlendar2:${RHOME}/.rainlendar2" -v "/etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro" -e DISPLAY=unix${DISPLAY} rainlendar-ubuntu
