I'm having the same problem, subscribing to the "Contacts' birthdays and events" calendar used to be working to make the contacts' birthdays show up in Rainlendar, but since a week or so it's not working anymore. Maybe clients must now explicitly use GData API v3.0 as suggested by the thread at [1]?

PS: Other special calendars like "German Holidays" seems to be broken, too.

The direct links to the xml and ical format calendars don't seem to work in the Google's website so something definitely is broken in there. I'll see if the API v3 works any better.

I can see that Business calendar, app for Android, works and syncs fine with google calendar birthdays. Is it using the other method of syncing?

Using the newer API didn't help. The reason probably is the old style authentication Rainlendar is using but changing that it requires quite a lot of work so it's unlikely to happen until after 2.10 has been released.
