Does it work not work only if the change comes from some sync tool or also not if you manually modify the ics file e.g. with a text editor?

I have tried (several times) to manually modify the ics file with a text editor.
After saving the modified file Rainlendar displayed no data at all (namely like ics file was totaly empty!)
(Luckily I did a backup before modifying so had no problem restoring everything )

I use dropbox to sync the ics files on both computers.
Every modification to the ics file on one computer is synced and updated on the other computer within several seconds.
Yet the info Rainlendar displays (on 2nd computer) does not change.
In order to see the latest info displayed I have to perform a manual refresh.
So something must be wrong.
Unfortunately I have no clue

You need to make sure that the ics file is saved in utf-8 format if it is edited manually. What you can try is to disable the "Monitor changes" in the calendar's settings, click ok to apply the settings and re-enable it again.
