editing ics file? 7 Years, 6 Months ago
so i'm stupid and i tried editing the .ics file without making a current backup. i have a backup but its from a few weeks ago. i was trying to change the CATEGORIES: field for several events at once to a new category name and now rainlendar doesn't load the file. is there a way to manually edit the .ics (or recover it)?

What does rainlander say in the logs about loading the file. The log is kept with where you installed rainlendar.

The log just says it loaded 0 events from the ics file.

13:13:36: [0:00:00.703] Default: Read 0 VEVENTs and 0 VTODOs from file "Default.ics"

apperently it doesnt like the format that notepad saves in because even if you don't make any changes to the file and simply resave it, rainlendar can't read any events from the file. i was just curious if there is some other way to manually edit the file...or some way to change the category for a large number of events at once.

Currently there is no mass category changing.

I suggest editing text files with vim. But that is not very easy to use. Which makes my suggestion a more notepad like program Context.

The only thing I could think that would make notepads saves different is notepad adds a \n and \r to end of lines. If thats the case you would have to force context to change that, I don't know how to do that though.

PSPad is also a very good text editor. And free

The ics file must be in utf-8 format. If Notepad saved it in some other format you can get an editor which understands different unicode encodings, open the ics file with it and convert it back to utf-8.

What a very cool editor PSPad is! As is Context, but I think I might even consider switching from CuteHTML to PSPad. Thanks for the tip.
