How can I use/copy icons/symbols out of Microsoft Word and add these in the regular file with the present icons?

You need to save the icons in png format. You can copy them e.g. to a subfolder under your pictures folder and change the Options->Advanced->"Custom category icon path" to point to the same place. After that you should see the icons in the Rainlendar's category editor.

Does not work for me in Rainlendar v2.9 b111

Having a single file (called meetup.png) in my custom folder is ignored.

Having two files (called icon-small-meetup.png and icon-meetup.png) does not work either.

The workaround suggested a couple of years ago gives me results but requires me renaming my files and replacing a pair of png files for an existing event-category.

What operating system you are using? I just tried this with the latest beta version on Windows XP and everything was working as it is supposed to. Can you attach the image you were trying to use? Perhaps there is something wrong with it.
