TOPIC: Outlook calendar only under Windows

Outlook calendar only under Windows 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Hi,

I'm using the Pro version unter Linux. It seems to me Outlook calenders are only available unter Windows, though. Is that correct? Why is that so? Can't Rainlendar simple connect to an OWA / Exchange web interface / over MAPI? In any case, [1] should probably updated to say that Outlook calendars are onyl available under Windows (when running the Pro version).

Yes, the Outlook support is Windows only. It is mentioned in the front page and in the feature list but I updated it to the FAQ now too. The reason for it is that Rainlendar uses the Microsoft's MAPI library to access the appointments and as far as I know they are not available on other platforms.

Isn't Evolution using MAPI to access Exchange serves from Linux, too? So I thought there is at least a MAPI library for Linux.

As far as I know that's a specific library for Evolution which is completely different than what Rainlendar currently uses in Windows. It might be possible to use the Evolution's library in Rainlendar too but it would require a completely new calendar plugin and I'm not sure there is enough demand for such considering the amount of work making it would require.

So instead of writing a new Outlook calendar plugin for Linux, how about adding Caldav support? I already saw many requests for this on the forum, and it would allow Linux users to access Outlook / Exchange calendars using the DavMail [1] gateway. So adding Caldav support would solve two issues in a single blow

CalDAV is a planned feature.
