In order to run Microsoft's SkyDrive on my Vista SP2 PC, I had to turn UAC on (minimal setting). Rainlendar2 (2.11.1 b129 32-bit) is then prevented from running by Data Execution Prevention (DEP). DEP will not let me add Rainlendar2 to Exeptions, for some reason.

I have Googled the problem and searched this forum but I can't find a way around this. I either run SkyDrive or Rainlendar, but I can't run both.

Any ideas to resolve this would be greatly appreciated as I've used Rainlendar for years and I need to use SkyDrive sync.

I changed DEP to monitor Windows processes only. When I launch Rainlendar2 it now says I don't have permission to write to rainlendar.ini, then I get the DEP warning telling me that Rainlendar has been blocked. I'm an Administrator on this system.

Windows 7 has DEP enabled by default so this is probably some Vista specific issue. I'll try to get my hands on a Vista and see if I can reproduce the problem.

I installed 32bit Vista to a virtual machine and the latest Rainlendar on it. I also enabled the DEP for all programs but there were no errors. Rainlendar was running just fine on it. I also installed SkyDrive to the computer but that did not cause any problems either. I'm not really sure why things work differently in your computer.

When I turn UAC back on (minimum level) and reboot, I get the following in this sequence:

1. Program Manager tells me that rainlendar2.ini is not writeable.

2. I get a "Rainlendar2 has stopped working" message:

3. I get a pop-up DEP message about Rainlendar2 in the bottom right.

I've just tried resetting some system settings to default in case it's something obscure, but I get the same issue on reboot.

I'm not sure what to try next. Yes, I would like Windows 7 or even 8 (maybe) but it's a matter of cost and hanging on to some very useful installed programs.

I'll turn UAC off again.
