I had the same failure in Feisty, starting rainlendar with the option -m gave me the solution, though I don't know why...

That would suggest that there is something wrong with the single instance check. You could check if there is a file called Rainlendar2-remote in ~/.config/.rainlendar2 folder, delete it and see if that helps.

There was no such file, but I found that the owner of that folder and every file in it was root, so I set it to my user and now everything works - must have been because I installed rainlendar having superuser rights. Thanks for that hint!
