TOPIC: Settings not saved

Settings not saved 7 Years, 5 Months ago
I'm running version 2.1 b38 and I am unble to have Rainlendar save any settings. Anything I define - layout, windows, options, calendars - persists only until I exit the application, when I start Rainlendar again it resets to default settings. Please help.

What operating system you are using? Did you make a portable installation of Rainlendar? If you did, do you have write permissions in the installation folder?

I'm having a similar problem with the same Rainlendar version (registered) running under Win XP Prof. SP2 (32-bit). I'm not using a portable install. I noticed that it works okay a while, even if I refresh / restart Rainlendar, but the settings get reset everytime I install a new driver, e.g. for my graphics card or chipset. I've verified my settings are still at

"C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\.rainlendar2"

(sorry, slashes get stripped although the preview shows them)

and I've also tried to restore older settings from the backup archives, but no luck. Although the settings are there Rainlendar does not seem to use them.<br><br>Post edited by: eyebex, at: 2007/05/08 13:21

I think I know what the problem is in my case. I'm on a machine that usually is part of a domain. Rainlendar seems to use
Code:

%HOMESHARE%\%HOMEPATH%\.rainlendar2
as the place to store it's settings. In my case, this points to a share on our domain server. When that server is not available it falls back to
Code:

C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\.rainlendar
creating new default settings (note the missing &quot;Application Data&quot; folder, this is not the usual place where Windows applications store their settings, see below). I'd suggest to use
Code:

%APPDATA%\.rainlendar2
instead in any case.<br><br>Post edited by: eyebex, at: 2007/05/09 13:35

Yes, that can happen if the path to your home folder changes. I haven't thought about that kind of problem. I cannot change the path since it would break the existing installations but I try to figure out some kind of solution for this.

I've edited my post above to emphasize the difference between
Code:

C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\.rainlendar
and
Code:

%APPDATA%\.rainlendar2
.
