If Rainlendar is not running when the alarm should be shown it is displayed when you start the application next time. You can change the event list to show only the events for the current day if you set the options->advanced->"The number of days the list shows" to 1. In the latest beta you can also hide the events automatically as soon as the end time is passed.

The event editor is already too crowded so I don't like to add any new controls to it without a really good reason.

Wouldn't it just be one extra field under "Eventlist" in Options - Advanced? Like: "hide expired events from eventlist: yes or no"?

Oh yes, that seems entirely OK. In fact it might make an interesting difference for the eventlist not to be cluttered while the option still is to expose the corpses in the bubble. I'd suggest to make it an implicit setting.

Yes, there is such setting already. As I said in the previous post: "In the latest beta you can also hide the events automatically as soon as the end time is passed."

Not in my version, 2.6 (b82), 8/22 2009. Only "Hide stopped event" which means you have to stop it manually. ToDo list has not even that. What I'm suggesting is actually (1) deleting (2) both from event list and to-do list (3) by an automated action.
