I trying what you say with my calendars (i'm using the latest beta version) and when you add an event, automatically select the last calendar used (and included) in that view.
On the options in active skins, do you have the item "included calendars"?
You need something like this:
WEEKVIEW- INCLUDED: University, WeekViewCalendar EXCLUDED: None
MONTHVIEW- INCLUDED: Default, MonthViewCalendar EXCLUDED: None
And don't select a calendar outside the included one.
