How about allowing email reminders. Seems like a simple addition to the alert screen.

At least at the moment there are no plans to include a email client into Rainlendar.

Maybe this could be done for events in the Google Calendar. Google supports email alerts, so maybe an option can be given to the user when he is creating a Google Calendar event for the alert to be an email instead/along with the usual popup

The support default alarms in Google Calendar is planned (assuming that I can get it to work) so you can get email alarms that way.
